Board for the Advancement
of Racial Equity and Social Justice (BARESJ)

Created June 19, 2020

In response to the issue of systemic racism that continues to plague our country and county, as highlighted by the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others, the Middlesex County Bar Association (MCBA) is pleased to announce the creation of the Board for the Advancement of Racial Equity and Social Justice (MCBA BARESJ).

The mission and vision statements of the Board are below:

Mission Statement:
The Mission of the MCBA BARESJ is to be proactive in acknowledging and confronting issues of systemic racism, bias and discrimination in our justice system and community.   We are committed to effectuating lasting change through building allyship with communities of color, educating our peers about the history of insidious racism against Black Americans and the impact that bias and discrimination has had on communities of color. We are calling on our legal community to work to reform the judicial system to ensure that it is one of justice and fairness for all.

Vision Statement:
The vision of the MCBA BARESJ is to create a community and justice system within Middlesex County that is equitable in its treatment of all citizens, regardless of race.

Over the coming months the Board will formally announce its upcoming program schedule:

If you would like to learn more about MCBA BARESJ and/or get involved, please contact one of us or MCBA Executive Director Jonathan Cowles.
