Cassie Ansello Murphy to Receive the

2017 Martin S. Goldin Family Law Award

The 2017 recipient of the Martin S. Goldin Family Law Award is Cassie Ansello Murphy, Esq., of Paone, Zaleski & Murray, in Woodbridge and Red Bank. Cassie will be presented with the award on January 24, 2018, at the Association’s Annual Family Law Dinner Meeting, held at The Pines Manor in Edison. (Click here for event details.)

Martin S. Goldin, the Chair of the Family Law Section since its inception in 1972, passed away in 2002. Marty was regarded as a fair and reasonable adversary and was renowned for his good nature, collegiality and genuine respect for all members of the bench and bar. Marty took great pleasure in discussing legal issues with newer attorneys and generously gave his time to mentor any attorney who sought his counsel.

In February, 2003, the Family Law Section established the Martin S. Goldin Family Law Award, to be presented each year to a Family Law Practitioner who has been engaged in the practice for 15 years or less and who exemplifies those principles by which Marty practiced family law, including:  maintaining a continuous study of past and present case law; making a careful and detailed analysis of each case; presenting the issues and applicable law to clients in a readily understandable manner; attempting to settle issues on a fair and reasonable basis before resorting to litigation; fostering respect and courtesy for the bench and bar; maintaining high standards of integrity and professionalism, and exhibiting leadership in the County or State Bar Association.

Cassie epitomizes the qualities in a lawyer that were especially important to Marty and which she incorporates into her daily practice. She handles even the most challenging family law case with confidence. Cassie is very thorough as she assesses the issues in a case and firm as she advocates for the interest of her clients, settling the cases on terms that are fair. Cassie maintains collegial and professional relationships with judges and other attorneys.

Cassie graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s Degree and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the University of Maryland School of Law. While at law school, Cassie served as an Associate Editor of the Maryland Law Journal of Race, Religion, Gender and Class.

As a member of the Middlesex County, Monmouth County, and New Jersey State Bar Associations, Cassie has been active in family law matters both locally and statewide. She is a voting member of the Family Law Executive Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association. She has served several years as an Associate Editor for the New Jersey Family Lawyer, the State Bar’s Family Law publication in New Jersey. Articles she has authored have been published in that periodical. Most recently, her article “Cohabitation and the Amended Alimony Statute: Has the Economic Needs Standard Been Replaced?” was published in the June, 2016, Family Lawyer. Cassie served as co-chair of the Young Lawyers Committee of the NJSBA Family Law Section for the 2016 – 2017 year. She has been selected as a New Jersey Super Lawyers Rising Star each year since 2013.

An Associate at the Law Office of Paone, Zaleski & Murray, Cassie previously served as Law Clerk to the Hon. Lisa Perez-Friscia, J.S.C. Family Part, Bergen County, and began her practice of family law at the firm of Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Peretti, Morristown, New Jersey.

Cassie and her husband Kellen Murphy reside in Red Bank, New Jersey, with their daughter Madeline Kate Murphy who was born in January, 2017. Sandy, their dog and Bill Clinton their cat, complete the family circle.

As a Trustee for the Red Bank River Center, a not-for-profit community organization, Cassie serves to promote the economic development of Red Bank.

When she is not occupied with her legal practice and activities, Cassie enjoys reading, cooking, going to the beach, and traveling.
