2016 Robert J. Cirafesi Chancery Practice Award Winner

Ann Renaud, Esq.

Ramp, Renaud & Hlavenka

The 2016 winner of the Cirafesi Award is Ann Renaud, Esq., of Ramp, Renaud & Hlavenka, LLC in East Brunswick. The award will be presented at the Association’s Annual Practice Area Awards Dinner to be held on March 16th at The Pines Manor in Edison.

Ann Renaud—a litigator for 33 years—has presented cases at every level of the New Jersey court system, including the state Supreme Court. A seasoned advocate, Ann combines experience and compassion, never forgetting how difficult it is for her clients to be involved with the judicial system.
Ann’s knowledge of legal issues allows her to attain the best outcome for her clients. Because she is such a careful listener, she gathers the details needed to achieve advantageous results. And because she cares so deeply for her clients, she shepherds them through their cases. As her clients can attest, Ann is responsible, compassionate, and trustworthy.

Ann’s areas of expertise include criminal law, major motor vehicle violations, DWI/DUI, drug possession, personal injury, probate and estate litigation, and mental health advocacy.

Ann served as a judge in the Municipal Court in East Brunswick (2000 – 2003). This allowed her to experience the legal system from the other side of the bench. She saw which arguments work and which do not, a powerful asset to her clients. While serving as a judge, Ann’s skill and demeanor were highly appreciated by her professional colleagues.

Ann also serves as an advocate for the mentally ill. She has done so effectively in many venues, including protecting their rights when hospitalization or commitment is imminent.

Further, Ann is involved with women’s issues, serving as a mentor to young women, women in the workplace, and women in crisis. Her skill, experience, and compassion have led to a number of referrals from psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.

In addition, Ann has participated in several extensive mediation training programs with psychologists and other lawyers. One 16-week program included actual mediations, which were videotaped and critiqued by the trainer and her peers. Ann also is a member of the Chancery Probate Mediation Panel for Middlesex County. The court’s confidence in her can be seen by the number of times she has been appointed to act on the court’s behalf.

As part of Ann’s personal philosophy, clients are treated as friends. She has a strong sense of ethics both in the courtroom and in daily life. She is a former member of the District VIII Ethics Committee and served several years on the Fee Arbitration Committee, including acting as chair of that committee.

Robert J. Cirafesi was born on April 14, 1942. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1964 and Rutgers Law School in 1967. He clerked for Hon.
