2015 Robert J. Cirafesi
Chancery Practice Award Winner

Tara Auciello, Esq.

Sole Practitioner

In 2004, the Middlesex County Bar Association mourned the loss of Robert J. Cirafesi, Esq., a longtime member of the Association. He served for a number of years as Chairman of the Association’s Chancery Practice Committee and founded the Middlesex County General Equity Mediation Program, serving as its coordinator for many years.

In 2010 the Committee announced the establishment of the Robert J. Cirafesi Chancery Practice Award, to be presented annually to a General Equity Practitioner who exemplifies those principles by which Bob practiced law: careful and detailed client representation; attempting to resolve issues on a fair and reasonable basis both before and during litigation; fostering respect and courtesy for the bench and fellow members of the Bar; and maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

The 2015 winner of the Cirafesi Award is Tara Auciello, Esq., a solo practitioner in New Brunswick. The award will be presented at the Association’s Annual Practice Area Awards Dinner to be held on March 18th at The Pines Manor in Edison.

Tara Auciello is humbled and honored to receive the Cirafesi Award. She experiences the Chancery Division as a Court which is home to an excellent bench that is in equal parts wise, practical, and imaginative, as well as a collegial, professional, and creative bar. Tara is proud to serve clients who have vitally important rights at stake in such a setting.

In addition to thanking the Judges of the Middlesex County Chancery Division, Tara wishes to thank her "north star” father Dennis along with her mother Marlene, siblings Justin and Kristen, and husband Chad Murray for the unconditional support they have demonstrated throughout her career and for not panicking when she begins a telephone call with, "I’m on my way to the hospital.” Tonight, she especially wishes to honor their collective acceptance that the practice of Chancery Law may lead one to take a telephone call from a doctor at home on a Tuesday at 3:00 a.m. or in a Broadway theater on a Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

Tara is the Immediate Past-President of the Middlesex County Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York and truly enjoyed being sworn into the bar of the United States Supreme Court with her MCBA colleagues in 2010. Before opening her solo practice in July 2003, Tara was an associate in the Commercial Litigation Department at Bryan Cave LLP in Manhattan. A Municipal Prosecutor for the Township of Edison, Tara previously served in the same capacity for the City of New Brunswick.

She is a Past-President of the Middlesex County Bar Foundation and is currently serving a three year term as a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association General Council Executive Committee. Tara formerly taught as an adjunct instructor in the Paralegal Studies program at Middlesex County College.
Tara graduated cum laude from Boston College Law School in 2001. She graduated cum laude with majors in Political Science and Religion from Duke University in 1998. Tara graduated from Rutgers Preparatory School in 1995 after having attended that school since 1982. She served as a Trustee for Rutgers Prep from 2008 to 2014.

Past award winners include Paul Rowe in 2014, Brian Molloy in 2013, Dennis Estis in 2012, Anthony Vignuolo in 2011 and Andrea J. Sullivan in 2010.

Robert J. Cirafesi was born on April 14, 1942. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1964 and Rutgers Law School in 1967. He clerked for Hon. David Furman in the Chancery Division for one year and then served two years as an Assistant United States Attorney. Bob joined the Woodbridge firm of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer in 1970 where he spent the remainder of his legal career until his passing on March 7, 2004. His practice involved commercial litigation of all types in the state and federal courts, with an emphasis on real estate and corporate disputes. He is survived by his two sons, Chad and Craig, and his wife, Susan.
