Tara Auciello, Esq.

New Brunswick

Tara Auciello is humbled to accept the 2017 Municipal Court Practice Award. She is honored to have been selected by her colleagues, several of whom have served as adversaries in many municipal courts. Tara has been lucky to learn much from her bar colleagues as she has negotiated the swiftly-flowing waters of municipal court. Whether trying cases at 11:00 p.m. or negotiating pleas each week at the county jail, she has always been grateful to her fellow MCBA members for their professionalism, competency, and good humor.

Tara is a solo practitioner in New Brunswick and is a proud Past-President of both the Middlesex County Bar Association and the Middlesex County Bar Foundation. Her service to bar colleagues has been a true honor and highlight of her career to date. She particularly enjoyed serving as the chair of the MCBA’s Municipal Court Practice Committee for a decade. She is admitted to practice in both New Jersey and New York along with several federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court. Before opening her solo practice in July 2003, Tara was an associate in the Commercial Litigation group at Bryan Cave LLP in Manhattan. A Municipal Prosecutor for the Borough of South River, Tara previously served in the same capacity for both the City of New Brunswick and the Township of Edison.

Tara is currently serving three-year terms on both the General Council Executive Committee and Continuing Legal Education Advisory Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association. She formerly taught as an adjunct instructor in the Paralegal Studies program at Middlesex County College and currently serves on that institution's Paralegal Studies Advisory Board. Tara is a frequent ICLE lecturer who spoke at the NJSBA Annual Meeting in May 2016 on motion and trial issues in municipal courts. Last year, she conceived an ICLE program on emergent matters in the family, chancery, and criminal parts entitled "What to Do When You Get That Call” and moderated the program for ICLE statewide.

Tara graduated cum laude from Boston College Law School in 2001. She graduated cum laude with majors in Political Science and Religion from Duke University in 1998. One of the great joys of her life is rooting for Duke basketball with her convivial and solicitous family: Dennis, Marlene, Justin, Andreica, Kristen, and James. Tara and her husband Chad, who have been a couple for over twenty years, have traveled to all fifty states and to four continents to date.  Their most recent trip was to Dublin to spend part of the holiday season with the most adorable two and a half year-old on the planet, their nephew and Tara’s godson, Senán.
